Connecticut's Wintonbury Hills Golf Course honored by Golfweek
VIENNA, Va. -- Wintonbury Hills Golf Course (Bloomfield, CT) - managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG), the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S. - is ranked No. 2 in Connecticut in Golfweek magazine's recently released 2014 "Best Courses You Can Play" state-by-state list.
Representing renowned architect Pete Dye's first championship design in New England, Wintonbury Hills ranks No. 11 on Golfweek's 2014 "Best Municipal Courses" list.
"Placing so high on Golfweek's list is a huge honor for Wintonbury Hills," says Ciaran Carr, General Manager of Wintonbury Hills. "It's testament to the dedication of our team delivering high-quality course conditions to our guests time and again."
The state-by-state rankings - tallied by hundreds of Golfweek raters - takes into account the overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural settings, greens, the variety and remarkable nature of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria.
Located 20 minutes northwest of Hartford, the 18-hole, 6,700-yard, par-70 layout with stunning views of heavily-tree ridges, presents a stern test to high and low handicappers. Generous rolling fairways help navigate the 125 bunkers that frame the course, while a blend of links-style and forested holes combine to create uniquely enjoyable experiences.
Rising PGA Tour member Andrew Svoboda holds the course record with an 8-under-par 62.
A popular practice facility includes a driving range, short-game area and putting green. The clubhouse contains a fully-stocked pro shop and The Tap Inn restaurant that is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner and specials events.
Wintonbury is among 27 courses managed by BCG or promoted by the company's PR division, Buffalo Communications, on Golfweek's 2014 "Best Courses You Can Play" state-by-state list.
